Episode CCLIII: Merry Fettmas!
From the depths of the Great Pit of Carkoon, Boba Fett lives! We finally have the first episode of THE BOOK OF BOBA FETT. And it was great. So so so great. It goes without saying, but spoilers ahead!
From the depths of the Great Pit of Carkoon, Boba Fett lives! We finally have the first episode of THE BOOK OF BOBA FETT. And it was great. So so so great. It goes without saying, but spoilers ahead!
Since Eva and Dakota are out this week, Ben and Cole decided to just record Obroa-Skai Walkers and pass it off as a Skyhoppers episode! They go through 2021 and rank each of the books they read this year against the others. But even if you don’t follow that podcast, they spend some time talking about Book of Boba Fett (ONE WEEK) and ranking Legends books too!
Listeners, I’m sorry, but we watched the Star Wars Holiday Special again. Maybe put this commentary track on while you enjoy the 1978 Holiday Special with your loved ones this year.
If I tell you that another potential title for this episode was “Merry Chissmas,” you’ll probably be able to guess what it’s about: LESSER EVIL by Timothy Zahn! But since it’s just Ben and Cole this week, it’s basically an abridged episode of Obroa-skai Walkers focusing on a Canon novel. Spoilers ahead!
In this special edition of The Skyhoppers Podcast (maybe), Ben is joined by longtime friend of the show Austin from The Ossus Project to talk a little bit about the shakeups that are happening in the world of Star Wars comics! IDW is losing the Star Wars license and DARK HORSE COMICS is making their triumphant return! What does this mean? Why is it happening? What do we want to see out of our old friends at Dark Horse? All of this, and so so so much more!
The gang’s all here! And we’re all ready to discuss THE UMBARA ARC of The Clone Wars! This is by far the most positive Clone Wars episode we’ve ever had, and for good reason: these episodes are GREAT. But we first we do a book check in! Eva finished Revan and is reading Life Debt, and Cole finished Lesser Evil!! No spoilers, though.
Ben and Eva talk about Disney+ Day while being more confused than negative, a check-in on feelings about THE RISE OF SKYWALKER, and then get to the main(?) topic of getting deep on some PLANETS! We’ve been out of the in-universe game for too long and it’s time to make a return.
A lot of Star Wars news happened this week, and although much of it might be fake, we cover it anyway before jumping into three episodes of THE CLONE WARS that kind of surprised us! Well, two of them did, anyway. Also, Cole makes a good sound.
This episode is a bit of a grab bag (and that’s funny I guess?). Dakota and Ben are alone, so they talk about Maul rumors and news, Ronin, a few mini topics and the BOOK OF BOBA FETT TRAILER.
We’re coming in hot with the first three episodes of season 4 of The Clone Wars! Many old Skyhoppers inside jokes make their reappearance, but all in all, we weren’t as high on these episodes as we remember. Find out why!
Since all of us WANTED to podcast this week but only Dakota was able to, he decided to get drunk and cry about Ahsoka. And by that I mean that he is doing a commentary on the first two episodes of The Siege of Mandalore! Full disclosure: this is REALLY meant to be listened to while watching these episodes.
75% of the Skyhoppers are here to give you their takes (of varying degrees) not only on the last three episodes of Star Wars Visions, but also the MOUNTAIN of Star Wars book news that came out last week! (Of course, it dropped the day after we recorded. Whatever.)
Even at half strength, we bring 100% of the love for Star Wars Visions. Ben and Eva take some time this week to talk about “The Village Bride”, “The Ninth Jedi”, and “T0-B1”. And at one point we say “NFT” out loud for SEO purposes.
We were not able to pull together an episode this week, but we have something almost more special for you: Cole was absent on our episode where we discussed the Clone Wars movie. He is choosing to rectify that by doing a solo commentary of the film! It is not recommended to listen to this without watching the movie at the same time, but hey, I can’t tell you what to do. Make sure to show Cole some appreciation this week.
We will never escape the Star Wars news cycle. Even on light weeks! But thankfully we didn’t get too wrapped up and forget to talk about STAR WARS VISIONS. At least the first three episodes of it, anyway!
News, news, and more news! It seems to never end this week folks. We’ve got THE HIGH REPUBLIC. We’ve got HUNTERS. And we have KNIGHTS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC!!!
We might be down a Cole this week, but we planned to talk about STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS film, and by god, we’re gonna do it come hell or high water. Our overall opinion? Probably not nearly as bad as you remember (at least with the benefit of 7 seasons of a TV show for context).
This week, we unleash all of the speculation that we kept under wraps last week! Not just for the Bad Batch, but for everything! Thrawn! Mando! And also The Bad Batch! Additionally, this episode is coming out a day early since five years ago on this day, August 26, 2016, the Skyhoppers Podcast was released into the world. Sorry about that. But thank you for sticking around. <3
In this 4th outing, our hosts Luke and Austin explore Jedi of the Republic and all-around weapon Mace Windu. Why does he have a blue lightsaber in initial appearances? Is he good at talking to other Jedi? All of this and MORE as we explore Star Wars: Jedi: Mace Windu from Dark Horse Comics and Star Wars: Jedi Of The Republic: Mace Windu #1-5 from Marvel Comics.
This week: pretty much a little of everything. The worst cold open we’ve ever had, Star Wars comics, Star Wars home releases (plus a fun laser disc surprise), Star Wars Visions, and Star Wars: The Bad Batch finales!!
This is one of our classic “this episode was supposed to be about one thing but ended up being about other things” episodes. We set out to talk about Palpatine since it was Ian McDiarmid’s birthday (just his, no one else’s), but then we talked about Ahsoka? And Thrawn? Whatever. I know that I had fun.
In their 3rd episode, Austin and Luke jump back into Legends with In the Shadow of Yavin, a controversial take on original trilogy characters, and also a fun little canon story about Mace Windu taking down child slavers! We also manage to talk a bit about High Republic and also what some Marvel comic creators and what Star Wars stories we’d like to see them take on.
This week: Disney wants to send you to fake space for $5000, Lego reimagines Death Troopers, and then we talk some spoiler-free High Republic and some spoilery Bad Batch!!
In another life, July was Prequel Month here at the Skyhoppers Podcast. And while we didn’t talk about anything explicitly NOT Prequels this month, we didn’t push it nearly hard enough. But we’re closing the month with the Prequel to (literally) end all Prequels: REVENGE OF THE SITH.
Join Austin & Luke this week for an extra long episode of the Ossus Project covering Jason Aaron’s first story arc on Star Wars, Skywalker Strikes, and a short Tales story, Apocalypse Endor. The podcast is not without tangents as we discuss toys, X-Men comics, The Suicide Squad and more! Issues covered this week: Star Wars (2015) #1-6, Tales #14 “Apocalypse Endor”
WESA FINALLY HOOOOMMMEEE! It feels like it’s been a million years, dear listeners, but Ben, Cole, and Eva are finally back together to talk about the Ryloth episodes of The Bad Batch! Hera Syndulla! Chopper wreaking havoc!! Howzer!!! We’ve got it all, baby! Including some little newsy bits.
In a shocking turn of events, we don’t have a Skyhoppers episode for you this week. But it’s only because we have an entirely NEW podcast for you to listen to!!! Our good friends Luke and Austin have started new comics podcast called THE OSSUS PROJECT that’s going to live here while they get off the ground. This week, they’re covering issues #50 and #55-58 of the Star Wars: Republic comic!! Check it out!!!
Star Wars Visions! The Bad Batch! Directors! Cad Bane! Star Wars is doing great and we’re here to celebrate it this week! But mostly by talking about The Bad Batch episodes from the last two weeks.
This week we talk about episode 7 and 8 of The Bane Ba-er, The Bad Batch! Lots of drama (some of it at the expense of logic/orders), lots of Rex, and lots of great Wrecker content!!!
The podcast is AGAIN at half strength this week, but it’s the other half this time! Dakota and Eva lament the lack of gays in Star Wars by doing their own little Pride episode!! Also it is episode 229 even though Eva says 228 only to be promptly congratulated by Dakota for getting it right. Happy Pride everybody!! Audio hiccups are left in situ as to not taint this historic occasion.
Even though the podcast is at half strength this week, Ben and Cole soldier on through episodes 5 and 6 of The Bad Batch. A lot of action, but also a lot of good character moments as well on top of a few mysteries! They don’t even spend THAT much time talking about Canon Concerns.
A very discussion heavy episode this week! We’re missing Dakota because he died, but the rest of us get into our first-ever voicemail, a terrifying Star Wars would you rather, the partial RPG-ification of the franchise and what that’s meant, and the nature of Star Wars “content.” Very all over the place, but not in the way you might have come to expect from us.
On this week’s episode of The Piehoppers Skodcast, it’s time for more Bad Batch! Who is Omega? We don’t know, but we love her. We also love Fennec Shand. And Wrecker. And basically all of them. But most of all, we’re excited about the officially sanctioned scamming of Grans. Remember: good soldiers follow orders.
On this holiest of anniversaries (or close to it), we’re talking about the reason we’re all here: STAR WARS EPISODE IV: A NEW HOPE. Kind of a retrospective, kind of a meta discussion, but for better or for worse, all Skyhoppers.
It’s finally here! Our long-awaited (by us, anyway) discussion of the first two episodes of The Bad Batch! But first you’ve gotta sit through our speculation about the much-rumored Knights of the Old Republic remake first, though. Sorry about that.
We’re finally getting back around to ATTACK OF THE CLONES! This oft-maligned Prequel has so much more going for it than the popular discourse would imply, and we’re thrilled to finally not get distracted by something else and actually talk about it.
“Padawan Lost” and “Wookiee Hunt” this week! Season 3 of The Clone Wars draws to a close with a bit of a bang in the form of some high-quality Ahsoka content.
Don’t worry, he’s not gone forever. But due to his departure, we end up skipping on our main topic this week and just see where the Star Wars takes us. Lots of Thrawn book chatter, three Legends books are getting reprints (and Shatterpoint is getting a new audiobook!!), and before he leaves, Ben and Dakota chat a bit about Victory’s Price. And then everyone else talks about some of the Star Wars Vintage collection that just came to D+. There’s a lot happening here, folks.
Back at it with The Clone Wars this week! We’re taking on the wonderful Citadel arc and we’re just tickled to be doing so.
This week we’re again joined by Oaty (as well as the rest of the hosts for once) to finish up our discussion of old Star Wars video games! We get dummy thicc in the weeds on Dark Forces, Dark Forces II, and the Rebel Assault games! More details than you would ever care to know!
This week, Ben and Eva (sorry Dakota) are joined by longtime fan/friend Oaty to talk about a few of the old Star Wars computer games, primarily the games from the X-Wing series. There’s a lot of discussion about these games at a very high level along with talk of what makes them special and unlike high-profile Star Wars games that we see released today. However, the things that Squadrons takes from them are not to be ignored, so we touch on that too.
It’s been a minute since we sat down to talk about one thing and ended up talking about many other things instead! This one takes many twists and turns as Ben, Dakota, and Eva discuss Kevin J. Anderson Legends Books, the cancellation of certain Canon books, season 3 of The Mandalorian, and Attack of the Clones. And somehow it’s mostly seamless? Weird. Anyway. Enjoy!
Lovely listeners, it’s finally here: this week we’re talking about Mortis. Episodes 15-17 of Season 3 of The Clone Wars, to be more precise about it. For the first time, the four of us all end up in separate corners on certain issues. But Mortis is nothing if not divisive, so you don’t want to miss this one!
It’s just Ben and Dakota this week, so of COURSE we’re gonna talk about Canon books. Which ones are we looking forward to? Which ones have we enjoyed most recently? How is The High Republic going? (Spoiler: it’s going good.) Hopefully Eva and Cole will be able to rejoin us next week, but until then, enjoy this adventure into all things Star Wars literature!
Cole is safe and warm but unfortunately very busy, so he’s out this week. Instead of our planned topic, we cover a lot of the little bits and bobs that have come out in the last few weeks. We also spend a lot of time on The High Republic, but since Eva hasn’t finished Light of the Jedi yet, that discussion remains mostly spoiler-free.
Cole and Dakota are absent this week, but that void is filled by our longtime buddy Jason! And he’s brought his giant page of notes regarding agriculture in Star Wars! This one is a bit different in that it’s one of our rare episodes that touch on how Star Wars interweaves with real life, but there’s plenty of in-universe discussion too.
This week we’re FINALLY getting back to our rewatch of The Clone Wars after taking a giant Mandalorian-shaped hiatus, and boy howdy did we come back on some real doozers! (Doozers are good in this case.) Ventress? Savage?? MAUL??? Episodes 12-14 of Season 3 this week!
Lucasfilm Games is back, and they’re bringing a new open world Star Wars game that isn’t being developed under EA! Big news! And also maybe there’s a new KOTOR game?? Probably not. I wouldn’t get excited if I were you.
It’s finally here! We finally get around to doing all the setup for the RPG we’re going to be playing here once a month for the foreseeable future! But not before we spend some time discussing what the future might hold regarding Andor and Alan Tudyk. It’s a little cloudy, as the future tends to be. Fair warning: this episode is a little meandery and wandering once we start creating characters, but if you’re into tabletop roleplaying games or are interested in learning about them, this might be a good place to start! In fact, we all do a little learning this week I think.
Okay, listeners. We finally get around to discussing the best bits of Star Wars that we consumed in 2020, but not before we spend far too much time talking about the new stuff coming in The High Republic as well as some first impressions on what’s already released, and theeennnn Star Wars Insider? It’s all over the place, but it’s all Star Wars so it’s fine. Except for the bit about rings near the end.
Ummm… I think we care about Bad Batch. And a whole heck of a lot of other new Star Wars things that are coming out! We haven’t gotten a chance to touch on the stuff from the investor call in earnest, so we’re sending 2020 out by looking forward to the future of Star Wars!
